Clutch Pressure Bleeding Posted by Dana [Email] (#2822) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Dana) on Tue, 15 Oct 2002 15:27:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi Saab people,
Haved gained much from you, here's some info I have discovered,
Car: 97 9000 CS LPT, 53k miles
After replacing the hose between the clutch master cyl and the slave cyl in my driveway yesterday, I wanted to provide some observations that may be useful to those 9000 drivers that still have that incredibly poor quality braided hose....total labor time 3 hours.
1. change that hose ASAP, it's junk and will strand you
2. take battery out and lever battery tray up and out of the way
3. use a flare nut wrench at hose connections....they are worth it
4. note that slave cylinder bleed screw hole at inner end may be blocked with crud....mine was, once cleared it bled well, be very careful removing screw...if you drop it in bell housing you're screwed!
5. reverse bleeding slave before installation of new line is a good idea
6. 15 psi worked OK on pressure bleeder (Y.Mason tip), a bit more pressure probably would have been better
7. feed new line through firewall from inside car...much easier, how do I know that? :-)
8. bleed everything....that old hose has put tiny black rubber bits into the whole clutch system.
SAAB should have covered this defective hose, $80.00 for replace hose!
Do it yourself and save the $200 in labor and spend it on beer!
Good luck fellow saabers
