I went with this particular combination for several reasons.
1) poly lasts a LOT longer than the rubber in my car.
2) Rear of the torque arm can be changed out in five minutes, as Scanwest sells a new torque arm with a new bushing preinstalled.
3) Vibration was way out of control on my '87 9000T non-balance shaft car. (with poly in both ends) The dash sounded and looked like it was going to fly apart at idle. Not so bad once you get going. Vibration is still probably more at idle than some people would like, but it's tolerable.
4) I do indeed notice slightly better control of the engine under launching especially, but this is still no Honda for drivetrain smoothness. Then again, I have twice as much torque as a Honda.. do they even need torque arms? :)
I also have the Abbott poly trans mount. After first installed, I noticed better shifting, but after living with it for almost a year and a half, I'm used to it, seems normal. Shouldn't ever need replacing, but then did the original need it, at 256k miles? Don't know, but since the tranny was out anyway, I figured why not?
I find the amount of play in the drivetrain is exactly proportional to how smooth your are on the accelerator. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of finesse sometimes in stop and go traffic, which my car detests. Out on the open road, no problems.
