Like Bill said, the 0 or 180 degree phase shift setting is there for you to set based on the "local" environment, so try it both ways and decide which sounds better. As far as the head unit settings... you must have a different model, since I don't have an LD setting on mine.
The LED lights up when the cone travel of the sub reaches a limit. Like the book says, it's OK for it to light up intermittently, but NOT OK for it to stay lit all the time. Mine does not come on since my settings are conservative.
