Since the belts are turning, the starter is turning the engine. So that's good.
Since it sounds different, I'd look at the intake hoses, all the way from the air filter to the four short, fat hoses that connect the intake plenum to the intake manifold. You'd be surprised how much noise the intake system makes, and how much more it'll make if one of those big, fat hoses fall off. Make sure that big fat hose is connected to the throttle body. If it pops off, the engine will sound louder and not start.
Grab and wiggle all the hoses, and reconnect any that have fallen off.
