It's easy to check if the bulbs are out. Shine a flashlight at the EDU and see if you can see the proper digits. Hit the INFO button and make sure they change. If they do, then the bulbs are out. If you don't see the proper numbers, changing when you hit INFO, then it isn't the bulbs.
The EDU is backlit. If the bulbs burn out, when you shine a flashlight in, where the display would normally be clear (backlight showing through), the flashlight light goes through and reflects back.
The EDU is an electronic circuit board, and I've had the EDU itself fail. That usually takes out the fuel and temperature gauge, too.
It could be the dimmer circuit, but getting in to check the bulbs makes sense.
