...with everything you've said except that I have found the SZ-50's to perform about the same when worn, to a point, compared to new. On my last set of non-EP's I let them go to <3/32" (past the wear bars) and was beginning to see some minor hydroplaning, but not much. I also have never purchased any EP's, and all my experience has been with its predecessor. The EP's are reported to provide better performance, if that's possible, and even better wear. Quasi has tried both and may be able to provide some gauge of comparison, not that it really matters since the EP is all that is available now.
The shop where I usually have my tires mounted and balanced is very picky with their installation procedures and won't even allow the bead to "pop" when installing, saying it can damage the tire. They check for out-of-round and told me the sets I've had mounted are as true and balanced as anything they've seen.
