I'd pass, too. You didn't mention tranny, so I'll assume auto and that it was shot. Tons of 'em here in CT/Northeast dirt cheap(not sure where you are). I was given a free 87 (9KS) with a bad auto tranny. Thought I'd use the parts on my '88 9KT with 239K mi. Figured I had nothing to lose. Swapped/Sold/traded a few parts, but in general, only borderline worth the hassle. Depends on your situ and time on hand.
Got rid of it recently to a local junk yard: title, wheels(so it's towable), engine and tranny was all that were asked for. And I'm gotten rid of worse (a wreck with no title, no tranny and two wheels to be exact to a junkyard.) Varies with local, etc. Could even COST you- disposal fee of $25 - $50 (fluids, etc) to cover what the yards have to pay, I guess.
Easier to spend $400 - $800 on the same that someone else has put more even money into to cut their losses. That way you get beeter parts and maybe more history on the vehicle.
I think you did the right thing in passing. Sounds like free trash just trying to find a new home.
Better idea: Buy one cheap in better condition, swap necessary parts to/from your current driver, then drive new one and donate your current one. Always get a clear title.
