Hey Guys,
My aero is 95% back after being down for three months due to a timing chain mishap. You can read the numerous postings recently about the rough idle and lack of turbo. After I did the chains and installed the rebuilt head, the car ran rough and had poor idling. The engine light came on and I had a error code of 6 CEL, which pointed to 02 senser.
I replace the o2 sensor and that didn't help. It felt like a huge vacumn leak. I searched around the engine and could not figure it out. I gave up and went to my Indy. He quick diagnose it as a poor timing. He was right. We took off the valve cover and it turned out that I was off by one tooth on the exhaust side! One tooth. We fixed it right there and it worked. Afther 15 minutes of driving, she ran smooth as silk. One tooth.
Wow!!
I want to thank everyone on this board, in particular Yaofeng and Zenk for thier insight. This board really gave me the confidence to take on such a big job as removing the engine, replacing chains and guides and installing a head. The total cost was around $1,000 and I was quoted $3,000 by mechanics. It was a good learning experience and I feel I really know the engine area inside out. Thanks.
Lastly, I just need to figure out why I am not getting any boost. The needle moves, but not into the yellow. It seems like the waste gate is open. The rod is attached. I will have to dig deeper. I will let you guys know I figure it out.
Happy Saabing
Patrick
