APC Valve, guage staying in mid-yellow

92 9000CD Turbo, 87,000 miles. The APC valve, I'm guessing is going after reading through the posts. I bought this car recently (4 mnts ago)and I've noticed the turbo guage has never reached the red area. A new APC Boost Valve is quite pricey, I've found it for around $188.
MY QUESTIONS: How long do they normally last? And about how much quicker will the car be with this part replaced? It's an auto, and if there isn't a big difference I see no reason to replace the part. It's way faster than the 87 non-turbo I had!
Thanks, Dane
