Hello, all. I'm new to the forum, been looking at the classic 900 postings ever since I bought an 88 900tc after the old audi finally decided to crack her block. Miss her a bit, I do... Anyway, I'm scanning the paper and see an 88 900 turbo in the ads for $1050, so I called, only to find that it was an 88 9000 instead. 197K miles, wing window busted out, etc. I went and saw her and I have to admit that although she was a bit of a mechanical disaster, I started to fall for her a bit. The guy dropped his price to $650 after I pointed out that the idle control was obviously ailing, the front left axle assembly felt as though it would clunk itself clean off soon, and a few other things that I noticed in just warming her up to go around the block. The guy got the car as a trade in (a dealer selling privately?) and didn't seem to know much other than the fact that it ran.
Where am I going with this?
My 900, which I love, has been the main reason for my advanced tension, cursing, bleeding, and splitting headaches (drinking a lot seems to help)
and I feel that I am getting into another ball-crushing relationship if I buy this car.
What should I really be looking for an this car when I go back to visit tomorrow? Are there common probs with 9000s that seem to crop up? Just knowing my 900 gives me an edge about how the swedes thought when they built 'em.
Anybody out there wanna talk me out of this? (or talk me down as the case may be)
