Check Engine Light

Hi All,
My '92 9K 130K miles hatchback had a check engine light came on last night while I was starting to accelerate. It began to what I felt was limp mode. Pulled over and turned it off, started it again but still with check engine light on. I then turned it off and opened the hood but everything looked fine. This was the second time it happened. The first one, I felt the wire connector on the AMM was vibrating a little bit. I then tried to pushed the connector thinking it was loose. It started right away and seemed nothing had happened. I did the same the second time it happened, only this time it had this CHECK ENGINE light on. Anyone experienced this before? Appreciate any insights..as I only got this car almost a year. Can I just pull out the connector and clean it maybe, with a contact cleaner? Thanks for any advice..
