I have the opportunity to obtain a 95 9000 CSE Turbo with 145,000 miles on it. The car is in nice shape, but the owner is selling because the 5 speed transmission is in need of repair. It will not stay in any of the gears (forward or reverse). The shifter seems to feel like it is in gear, but under load the transmission grinds and the car will not move. (the shifter stays in the proper gear position - it does not "pop out"). It seems as though while NOT under load (on level ground or a down hill) the trans WILL stay in gear and move the car. A slight incline puts an end to that! My questions are these - is this a common Saab problem? Is it an expensive fix by a shop? (anyone have a balpark cost?) Can this trans be rebuilt, or is a "new" rebuilt trans avaiable from Saab? I would consider doing the removal and installation of the trans myself - is it difficult? I am trying to figure out if it is worth buying this car - what would it cost me to fix, and what's it worth? Any help or information would be appreciated. Thanks!
