Securing the battery

My 98 CSE need an emergency transplant a couple of weeks ago when the battery quit suddenly. The Interstate that the local parts store sold me was slightly too long to fit fully in the tray--which means that the hold-down bolt doesn't reach and the entire set up is a problem waiting to get worse.
Has anyone found a means for easily securing the battery when it's just a bit oversize? A strap, maybe? (I know, it should be the correct size, but I live in small town and needed the car to run...)
Any help much appreciated!
