Last week I posted several times in regard to my Anti-Lock and Brake Fluid lights coming on at nearly every stop. I conducted some of the tests mentioned and I was hoping to switch my suspect Accumulators on to a known good system. Unfortunately, my attempt to remove the known good one failed. I stripped the hex. The only way to get it out now is to remove the ABS pump and accumulator assembly so I decided against that. Here is my update. I checked the level with the car off after many taps on the pedal. The level was several inches above the full charge mark. I turned on the car, heard the pump, and watched the level drop to the full charge line. I then did several repetitions of the quick taps on the pedal and found that both lights would come on after 4 or 5 taps. After these tests I let the system recover and applied constant pressure to the pedal. I could hear the pump come on followed by the lights. As long as I held pressure on the pedal the system would not recover. I can make it loose boost completely if I maintain strong pressure for 45 secs or so. This is my 3rd 88 9K and I have had ABS issues with all 3. The first had an internal pump failure that was allowing pressurized fluid back to the supply side of the pump and causing an external leak. This would only occur when the car was running. I replaced the assembly (motor, housing, accumulator, and pressure switch) and resolved the problem. The second one had the ABS pump fail. I repaired by replacing the pump. This one is creating a much greater challenge for me. I continue to learn so eventually I will be able to help others instead of requesting help. Thanks again for the wealth of your shared knowledge.
