The inside of the antenna has a nested spool assembly. On the inside of this spool, there is a spring loaded pawl that nests into a dentent on the outer spool. One half of the spool is driven by a worm gear from the drive motor. The drive sprocket for the toothed tail of the mast is part of the outer spool. The assembly acts like a clutch while the parking switch runs through its complete cycle. Usually, that takes one or two complete revolutions if the mast has been installed properly. What you are hearing is the pawl snapping in and out of the dentent when the mast has bedded into the housing and immobilized the toothed drive tail.
All of this explains why the clicking noise after the mast has retacted is normal.
One of these days I'm going to buy a digital camera to photodoc some of this stuff.
