If you want to stick with a stock setup, the cars are wired for both an in-dash single player/equilizer and an in-trunk cassette CD changer (round DIN cable plugs). With the Clarion system, you can toggle between the two players using the dash unit buttons. With the later model Harmon-Kardon systems, you need an extra adapter to splice the two into the system. Otherwise it is one or the other exclusively.

The in-dash unit was made for SAAB (was installed on both 9Ks and 900s between '92 and '94) by Clarion and can be found on eBay. Buying a new one from the dealer is almost prohibitively expensive, given the features available on aftermarket units for much less costs.

Many of the Clarion CD changers will work. The model that came on the car under the SAAB tradmark was the CDC-635. There is a used one currently on eBay (1941497249)for $80. For other compatible models, check Crutchfield's cross listing function.
