I have posted on my TCS problems before, but I have other symptoms to report and a new question.
I have been experiencing a few different problems with the TCS on my 1993 9000CSE 5 speed with 148K. The car is going into LHM daily, after about a 20 minute drive. Rolling re-starts sometimes erase the fault, but it usually comes back. Warm starts (after going into a store) will start in LHM. The "check engine" light flashes five times- throttle position switch. The check engine light has reset itself a few times, but invariably comes back after a day or two. The car also can go into LHM without throwing a "check engine" code.
I have also been experiencing a “semi“-LHM fault also. The symptoms are: the pedal will get hard, but not as difficult to push as in LHM; the TCS CTRL light does not go on; and idling is not affected as in LHM either. Cruise and A/C will also work in this semi LHM mode. This “semi” mode usually changes into full LHM after 10 to 20 minutes.
Vacuum hoses have been replaced, and all connectors have been cleaned and checked.
I am wondering if there is there any way to clean the electrical part of the throttle position switch (TPS) mounted on the throttle body? It looks like the cover will come off, but I am a little reluctant to open this up- will things come falling out?
