There are only five possibilities:
1. Battery (unlikely based on the info in your post)
2. Ignition switch
3. Transmission switch (if automatic)
4. Theft alarm circuit (control box relay)
5. Starter/solenoid
(6. If you count loose/broken connections)
I replaced all of them in a simlar fault finding odyssey (also daughter related) that stretched over a year. It was finally cured when I replaced the rebuilt starter/solenoid the second time (both were from Bosch and the second was within the 1 year warranty replacement). The only outward difference between the two starters was that the solenoid of the failed rebuilt was stamped "Made in Mexico" while the one that worked, and that I'm still using two years later, was stamped "Made in Germany." I have no idea if there is a QC manufacturing correlation. Also, my problem was more pronounced in the hot summer months.
