This has happened to me on the drivers seat. You need to first visit a fabric store and pick up some upholstery thread (very strong) and a package of curved sewing needles. Then remove the seat cover (you need to cut off some hooks on the front bottom side of the seat that hold the seat to the frame (can use zip ties to refastend the seat to the frame when you are done))and then "peel the seat cover back. Once you peel the cover back you can then access the seam from the underside where you will have to sew in new stitching.
I went through this drill twice with the same seat (stitching in two different places had given way). Then the third time this happened it was apparent that the entire cover really needed to be restitched due to deteriorating thread (1994 9000); at that point I took the cover to a local auto upholstery shop and had then completely restitch the entire thing.
