There obviously is a chance! Search for KevinK's compilation of
data from Car & Driver. You'll find that when they tested the '93
Aero, it's weight was listed as ~60 lbs lighter than the '92 CC they
had tested earlier. Now, the sales brochure from Saab lists the
'92 at 3166-3273 lbs and the '93 at 3110-3190 lbs. So, I'd say
there is a chance that the new style is lighter. I was skeptical
myself, at first, but I recently did an engine swap - I took the
'98 B234R drivetrain that was in my '92 and dropped it into a
'94 Aero. The only thing I did to the drivetrain was put a new
pressure plate and clutch, but the vehicle feels faster with the
drivetrain in the newer body. I had an Aero interior in the '92
so both vehicles were pretty similar - the Aero seats must
weigh more than the non-Aeros. Also, I think the amount of
glass used on the CC style hatch must contribute a lot of mass.
