controller (AKA Dawes device) you are mechanicely controlling the boost by putting a "ball and spring device" between the compressor and the wastegate. The pressure simply builds because of the resistance of the spring until it reached a set limit (ex. 13 psi) at which point the air pushes the ball harder than the spring is resisting. The air goes to the wastegate and boost is limited.
The only draw back is there is no knock protection, some people use the MBC inline with the APC, this way you retain most of the the knock protetion and really increase spool up time.
MCb can be homemade all you need is some plumbing supplies from HQ and a little ball bearing and spring.
