I have the Boost/Vac gauge from VDO, and it used to rattle terribly. I called VDO, and the technician said to install a restrictor with an opening equal to the diameter of 24 gauge wire. So I bought some 4mm Plastruct rod at a hobby shop, cut a 1/2" length, and then heated up a sewing needle of approximately the right diameter and repeatedly pressed and heated it to "drill" a passage of the correct size in the rod. Then I popped the gauge off the vacuum line, shoved the restrictor in, and replaced the gauge. Now the needle is perfectly silent, and it doesn't shake at all. Strangely, even with the very narrow opening, the readings are unchanged.
