Cleaning the contacts requires taking the valve apart, which you may not want to do, and either way is a pain in the ass because you have to bend out the little metal tabs that hold it together.
However, I have done it before, and only getting it apart is difficult (putting it back together too, I guess). Once you have it apart, there is nothing complicated about cleaning the contacts. I would guess that many people have replaced their valves when a contact cleaning would have sufficed.
NOTE: One crucial thing is to mark both sides of the AIC case before disassembly so that you can correctly position the top realtive to the bottom.
It would have been nice if Bosch had made it easier to take apart, it's really just a motor.
Good Luck!
