Flush the system every two years. Brake fluid is hydroscopic - it pick up moisture from the air, and that moisture can corrode (expensive) brake components. Picking up moisture and corrosion are pretty much a function of time, not miles. Brake fluid doesn't get hot like engine oil to drive off moisture.
Top up brake fluid when it gets low - it should be checked whenever you open the hood to check oil and coolant. REMEMBER - the brake fluid level has to be checked with the accumulator charged. Notice that the brake fluid FULL line is well below the top. When the car sits, the ABS accumulator leaks down, and that fluid flows into the reservoir (what you see), and the level rises. Start the car, wait for the ABS and Brake Fluid lights to go out, and also waith for the ABS pump to stop running. At that point check the brake fluid level.
Changing brake fluid regularly is the best way to avoid some very nasty repairs later on. And fresh brake fluid, without trapped moisture and air, gives the best brake feel.
