I don't own a white 9000, it's a grey one. Either way I did this to my tail lights a few years back. It didn't turn out exactly as I had hopes either. From about 10 ft away it looked fine however up close you could tell they had ben sprayed I suppose. The stock lights plastic has a shine to it that once sprayed seemed to lessen somewhat. They were tinted but they looked flat with not as much shine. I eventually cleaned it all off some 3 year later (very hard to do) and polished them up so they now are just the stock look but I like them better this way. Looking back on it now and comparing the look of these tinted lenses on cars that have them stock I realize that the best way to tackle this would be to tint them from the INSIDE, not the outside. If you do it that way they'll stil look very good and I have them done as such. Also there's a link that I use to have(I'll try and find it) of a guy on line that you can send them off to and he does them professionally (like a paint job kinda thing) and he also bakes them in an oven as well but I don't know all of what he does so I will look for the link for you. Unlike the way mine had turn out, the work he does looks really, really good and doesn't cost much.
See Ya,
Phil
