Alternator may be still good. Try removing the voltage

regulator from the back of alternator, with the latter still in the car. (2 small screws hold the VR in plave). Usually the brushes on the VR need to be replaced ($20).
If you insist on removing the alt, remove the front wheel, the plastic liner and jack up the Control_Arm with a second jack ... I just did it a month ago. The VR was bad ...
If the belt was there more than 50KKm, replace it.
