A bunch of test to do first-
First off, is it just blowing hot or just blowing cold? If you set the temp to LO, does it blow cold? Then set the temp to HI and see if it blows very hot. HI and LO don't care about the cabin sensor.
If you can't get both Hot and Cold, or not as much as you'd think you should get, open the hood. At the base of the windshield there is a horizontal cover, going fender to fender. Remove it. In the center of the car (base of windshiled) there is a black plastic box with the heater core and blower. Coming out the right side (facing forward - passenger side on US cars) is a little plastic shaft with an arm, and a wire on the arm going back through the firewall into an area behind the dashboard. Make sure the arm isn't broken, that the wire is in place. Have someone switch the heat from LO to HI, and make sure the arm moves forward and back. Make sure there isn't any play in the wire.

Quite often, the arm breaks. If so, the dealer has a 'heater flap repair kit' for about $8. If the arm is OK, but doesn't move when you change temp, then there is a problem with the servo behind the dashboard. If it moves, but there's play, then the servo arm may be loose.

To check the sensor, turn the car off and peer into the sensor with a flashlight. You should be able to see the fan blades. Start the car, and the blades should dissapear - they're spinning. If they aren't spinning, then the motor is dead or just gummed up.

If there is somthing very fuzzy in front of the fan, that's the sensor, just covered in dust. Clean it off with a blast of air - I like to use the canned air for cleaning lenses. Don't use WD-40 or other wet lube - it'll just gum everything up and trap more dust.

My guess is that if you can't change the temp with HI or LO, then the problem is at the flap arm under the hood.
