Ah, those gremlins.....
My EDU does not work anymore and my fuel gauge always points to empty. It's been a while since it happened random, sometimes it worked and sometimes not, until now when it's a week since it doesnt work. When the EDU used to come back to life, sometimes it had kept its memory (average fuel consumption, units to use... ) other times not. I had tried in the past to check all the connections at the beck of the instrument cluster, advised by Ari, but it didn't helped. I found some a bit loose, I exultated thinking I had found the cause of the fail, but after a while the problem came back.
So now I have no fuel gauge and no EDU. If it wasn't clear, my EDU seems turned off, like the key wasn't turned or the bulbs were shot (they are not), and the fuel gauge needle seem dead, just like when the key is off. The gauge and all the cluster are still lit, and the low fuel level still works ok.
I read in previous posts that it could be a ECU power feeding problem, because the gauge is "moved" directly by the ECU. So I checked all the harnesses behind the cluster, and I analyzed the ones coming to the EDU. One came from the clock, where are the two R and INFO buttons, so I thiught it wasn't power feeding related. In the other two connectors, I looked for wires giving 12v: I found three. One was always powered, no matter key position or the fuse (number 13, EDU and fuel injection, wich works), one had 12v only if the key was on, no matter the fuse, and one was 12v only with key on and good fuse in.
So my question is: is it normal to have such power feeding or not? if so, the culprit should be the EDU itself, wich should be gone bad. If some other wire should have power, besides the three that have it now, how can I fix it (where to look for poor grounds, jammed wires, loose connectors...)?
I'll look for a used EDU at the junkyard tomorrow, are they all the same?
I hope that someone with a electronic manual can help me.
Thanks to everybody in advance.
