Sean,
If the same wire is frying itself on a repeat basis, you need to fall back and regroup. There is obviously a serious electrical problem somewhere under the hood. It takes a good amount of current (amperage) to literally melt a wire. Lu's advice of looking for a bad ground is a starting point. It would behoove you to identify which circuit this wire belongs to, and to check the systems connected to/affected by it. If you're handy with an ohm meter, this is your chance to prove yourself. Check all available ground points; check the fuses in the box to see if any are burned out (this may point the way towards the problem circuit); pull your relays and see if any of their connector tabs have suspicious looking burn marks on them. To me, it sounds as though you probably have a circuit either shorted to another (hence the large current draw), or a circuit which is running too long (relays, control units?) Please don't just keep replacing the wire and let it burn out. This is asking for trouble.
