I had that problem on my 88', It was a very weird sound coming from one of the pullies on that side of the engine. At first I thought it was the crank pulley (harmonic balancer) and that pulley did have a slight wobble to it. So after having that replaced, the noise was lesser but it was still there. Two days later the water pump started leaking. Back to the shop I went and had that replaced also. So for a litle under $900 I was good to go however, I then found out that the total in parts could have been had off of the net for about $200 and I could have done the work myself in less than 3 hrs. Lesson for today, buy the parts and DIY and use the money saved for something else.
