Thanks for the feeback. The car is Auto, 1995 CSE model. I think its engine oil in the coolant as the would be a reddish colour to the coolant if ATF had got in there. Plus the loss of oil is from the sump rather than the transmission.

The oil cooler position is unusual to say the least. I have always known them to be out by the radiator somewhere. From what I understand there appears to be a coolant gallery at the bottom of the V between the two banks of cylinders at the top of the crank case near where the heads meet the block - the oil cooler is in there - cooled by the water. I guess it can work in there.

My favorite to clear the radiator is petrol and a high pressure hose.

Any other ideas (sensible ones!)
