Alternator outputs are either 70, 80 or 115 A (my '94 has a 115A). So if the alternator is still working properly this means that you are drawing an additional load of more than 50A. This equates to 600W which is going to generate a lot of heat and consequently damage and will blow any fuses in line.
Most likely is that the brushes are worn out as Ari suggested.
Please post your findings.
