I had the same problem on my 93 9K cse. It turned out to be a cold joint (broken joint) on the circuit board. It was the small relay under the hood in front of the battery. I believe it was orange. about 1.5" square and about 2-3" high. If you take it apart you might be able to see the bad joint. I could on mine. All i needed to do was resolder a few joints and i was ready to go.
