I've got two 9000s, had three for a while, and wouldn't mind picking up another one again. Very comfortable, fast, safe, and will haul anything.

Do they need maintenance? Sure. Does any other car need maintenance? Sure. OK, that was easy.

I've got an '88 9000T, aka "the truck" - not super pretty, but she runs great, and I have no problem taking her down to the home center to haut 2x4's or cement. It's also the car I take to work every day. I've got a short commute, so she only gets 4-5K a year. I've had to do some minor work, but she runs fine.

I agree with TRJ - get yourself a slightly older one and save $$$. Yes, an Aero would be nice, but you'll be paying an premium for the performance. Decide if you want a utility car or a sports car. A turbo will be plenty fast enough, and you'll save a bunch of $$. There are full-pressure CS, but a nice '92 or '93 can be had in the $4K range.

I wouldn't be afraid of a 100K mile car - My present hi-mileage 9000 is at 140K. If you're only doing 4-5K/year, you'll get 5-10 years easily out of a 100K car. Yes, there are certain age-related items, like heater core to attend to, but pick a nice one and you'll do fine.

Again, focus in on what you want the car to do. Is it the utility vehicle, or the weekend toy? Yes, it can be both, but you can have a damn fast utility vehicle. If you've got a really, really nice Aero, is that what you'll slap snow tires on and follow stone-spewing plows to work on a snowy day?

My suggestion would be an older turbo that's got a complete set of service records. I'll take an older, higher mileage car that's been cared for over a newer, lower mileage car with no or unknown maintenance. And don't sweat the cosmetics. Yes, a gash the size of a basketball out of a fender isn't good. But I'd take a car with some shopping-cart dings and scratched-up rims that has a strong engine and drivetrain over a car with perfect paint but a leaky head gasket. You'll also get the cosmetically-challenged car much, much cheaper. I've seen good looking cars that literally won't run (siezed engine) sell quickly and for a high price, and cars with some dings and a fresh blue-printed engine languish.

Would I get a 9000 for that? You bet. It's either a 9000 or a pickup truck, and the 9000 is faster, gets better mileage, and can carry 4 people comfortably.
