compared to R12 for equal vent outlet temperatures. As LesH said, R134a decreases the efficiency of the whole system. Therefore, you have increased engine load, and higher condenser temperatures.
However, it's probably the increased engine load, rather than the higher condenser temperature, that causes the increase in engine temperature that you're witnessing.
R134a systems are also more sensitive to overcharging/undercharging, so you might want to check that.
