Rotor Replacement

After two postings about subwoofers and amplifiers, I realized I had not queried the board about a more pressing issue. On December 23rd, I changed the brake pads on the rear wheels of my 1993 auto CDE (200543km). The left side rotor was also replaced since the mechanic noticed that my parking brake cable was too tight and didn't release fully once disengaged. This had cause some minor grooves in the left rear rotor and he felt it would become an issue if not replaced. The right side rotor was fine, and was left alone. Now while driving since Christmas, I have been noticing a distinct chattering sound from the right rear wheel, the side where the pads but not the rotor were replaced. It comes and goes depending on the temperature, it seems, and whether or not the car has been garaged or not. It sounds as if the pads aren't releasing fully when the brake pedal is released. I have noticed that the sound has been diminishing in frequency and intensity since I first heard it on Christmas Eve.
Does this mean the pads are settling into position and will be fine on their own, or should I be replacing the offending rotor? Brake performance has not been affected in the slightest and the mechanic seems to think the sound will go away in time. A new rotor and labour is only $120 CDN but if it's just a matter of patience I would rather spend the money on the aforementioned subwoofer and amplifier. Apologies for the lengthy posting but I didn't want to forget anything.
