A bit more Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: How much more is there to 9000 auto to manual than 900?, Ray, Sat, 18 Jan 2003 16:08:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
One way the 9000 differs from the 900 is electronics. If the car is TCS-equipped, TCS works differently on Automatic 9000s than on Manual 9000's. That means different wiring, different electronics boxes, and even different throttle pedal attachment. Also, the EDU (display unit under the speedo) is different for auto vs. manual - the Auto version shows the gear selector PRNDRL...
So if you get a well-equpped '93 or '94 turbo, it'll have TCS. Autobox units have an electronic-only gas pedal; the manual has an electronic pedal with a manual back-up. That means you'll need the throttle pedal assembly and throttle body assembly from a manual car.
This works if you've got a donor manual car, similarly-equipped (turbo, TCS, etc). Without a donor car, I don't think it makes economic sense.
My opinion - if you don't want an automatic, don't get one. Unless you're looking for a summer project, you are MUCH better off waiting for a manual-equipped car. Unless you've got time, (lots of time), plenty of experience in the electronics, AND a donor car, it doesn't make economic sense. Not when manual-equipped cars are available.
