The clutch is activated by a relay, The relay is energized by 12V from the ACC unit, via the anti-frost switch and the pressure switch. If either of these two opens, no AC. You might have torn a wire when working on the flaps.
Put your ACC on LO and check whether you have 12V on the pressure switch (on the receiver/dryer) or the anti-frost switch (on top of the evap box in the aquarium, small protruding box with two wires running into it).
If there is no 12V to be seen there, you lost it somewhere behind the dash :-(
You can also measure at the relay. It's in the box in the engine bay in your car ('95, two airbags (?))
