I am re-installing the head on my '93 Aero and got the new bolts part no. 5955794. If I understand recent posts, these bolts should be torqued at the lower specs, 30 lb, 44 lb, 90 degree. I am also assuming that you torque each bolt in succession (based on the sequence diagram) to 30 , than 44, than 90 degree and that's it. Now my problem is that I noticed that most of the head bolt holes (about 8 of them) have threads in them, which does not make sense. The other two drop right in and contact the block. Should I drill the threaded holes in the head out so the bolts can slide through the head and thereby the threads making the first contact in the block? The engine did overheat and I suspect that the expansion/contraction during the overheat caused threads to appear in the bolt holes in the head. Is my theory correct and therefore drill out these threads. I also noticed some pitting around the block surface of cylinder no. 1 around the lower water jackets. Should I fill this with JD Weld or will the gasket compensate and fill this up upon torquing. I'm in process of re-assembly so answers would be appreciated. Thanks.
