This is some input to those who have had recurring problems with the electronic throttle system in their saabs. I have had a recurring problem with my 93 Cse for several years culiminating in a replaced throttle body costing me a 1000 dollars. Well several months after that job. I drove home from work and a few hours later got into my car and the limp mode engaged and stayed on. I took my car to a Saab dealership and got a speech informing of at least three hours of diagnostic work at 90 dollars a hour. At this point enough was enough. I informed the service manager that the throttle body and the valves had already been replaced. I also informed him that 3 hours of diagnostic work was unacceptable. I mean we are talking about a computer! I gave him one hour to check it and do nothing else until he talked to me. Well the mechanic who did the job talked to me and could find nothing wrong. He did re-calibrate it and I left the shop heading for home. About 3 blocks from the dealership the limp mode engaged again, staying on. Well I drove the car for about a day when suddenly the system went back on line for a little while and then returned into limp mode. A little later it kicked back on line and stayed on. I thought for a while trying to figure out why. Then I remembered. I had gotten gas just before it had went out on me. The system returned to normal after I had refilled again and the car had time to drive the bad gas out. I had asked several saab mechanics if bad gas could affect the system and had been told several times "no". But if the system is so sensitive isn't it logical that low octane or bad gas could knock the system offline? I mean, wouldn't it be more profitable to replace the throttle body and other expensive repairs than to simply tell you to drive the old gas out? And as I thought about it. When I had the throttle body replaced, I had just filled the car up when the limp mode engaged! I am now very careful where i buy my gas. And I haven't had a problem since.
