You could buy an FPT ECU in a boneyard... I believe anything from 1996-98 will work in your car, certainly anything from 1996 will. I don't think in non-aero cars there is any difference in the ECU - a good SAAB tech should be able to confirm this for you. If you want to upgrade via one of the Swedish tuners, they can send you a replacement ECU while they wait for you to send them back yours. They usually apply a temporary core charge ($500-ish) to you until they receive your ECU. Otherwise, you could buy an lpt ECU in a junkyard for possibly as little as $100 (lpt ECUs are not very valuable, they are really only desirable as a basis for sending to be reprogrammed), and send that to be tuned, and just drive with your existing ECU until then, or use that as you send your ecu to be reprogrammed. When the swap to the upgraded ECU is complete, you could either sell the stock ECU and get your $100 back or keep it as a spare.
You will also need the BPC valve & hoses for the upgrade. ($200-ish new or $100-sih used).
