tranny mount replacement

Hi-
'88 and '91 9kt's, both needing new tranny mount.
I couldn't find this in the archives. Some have suggested removing the endplate from the transmission (5-spd) to get at the tranny mount. Others have suggested removing the mount with the endplate in place. So I'm wondering:
1. How hard is it to do it by the second method (endplate in place)?
2. Is there a gasket under that endplate?
3. Has anybody been able to press out the mount, or do you have to cut its outer ring?
I plan to install the poly mount from eeuroparts.com.
thanks.
