While doing my head gasket job on my '87 9000 T, before putting the head on again in the car, I saw that some valves didn't closed well. Some of them just leaked if I filled them with gasoline, and some of them were so open that they allowed some light to pass. These valves actually lean out from the combustion chamber plain. They don't close because they can't go up all the way they need, and not because their seat it too worn out.
So I measured the lenght of each cam follower, and I found that some of the were too long, so the valve couln't raise enought to close. These too long cam followers seem to have a just a part of the stroke that the other have: their plate can go up and down, but it has two firm stops: the good cam followers I have seem to have a spring that allows them to get shorter. I tried to leave the head out of the car with those valves open, in order to short the followers, bot I had no luck. I seized them in a vice, for half an hour, but it didn't changed 0.01mm. I squirted some WD-40 in the little hole, in order to get out the oil (something like water-oil, since I had a failed head gasket): some oil came out, but the length didn't changed. I have to mention that the car sitted for about two years before I bought it, colud this have siezed the followers?
The question is: is there a way to unlock those stubborn cam followers? or do I have to buy 11 new?
How could my dear car be running good before this discover?

Please tell me that unlock those followers is fast, easy and inexpensive! I'm starting to lose my faith...
