Quasi's site has an excellent write-up on how to replace the Darlington transistor. As Lu said, it is soldered into a circuit board and also screwed onto a finned heat sink. The whole assembly fits into the front of the air conditioning unit in the aquarium. You have to remove the false bulkhead to get at it.
I found that my fan motor fried after only a few weeks of full-speed fan. Then I had no fan.
Unfortunately, many have reported on the failure of Saab dealerships to know how to replace the Darlington transistor. They like to replace large components. If you can solder, you can do it yourself. Don't forget the heat sink goop. You can buy some at Radio Shack. Also, the transistor's back side must be flush with the heat sink, to get good heat transfer. My first attempt wasn't, and the transistor lasted five minutes. Good luck.
