Instead of dropping a boatload of money to change to something that it is not that different, you could make a few simple upgrades to your car. Sounds like your car is in great overall shape, and you know it's history, which, IMHO, is priceless, especially on a maintenance sensitive car like a SAAB. An Aero is significantly different from a CS, if you go for the 5 speed, but if you go with an automatic, the advantage of the Aero diminishes quickly. There is a nice performance advantage that even an automatic Aero or CSE (200 horsepower) over a stock automatic CS (170 horsepower). You can have this advantage for about $300 by buying the CSE ECU and BPC solenoid. If you traded your '96 CS for a '97 CSE you would probably spend the $300 on sales tax in most states. For about $700 you could get a Maptun ECU, which would boost your car to 240 hp, putting it waaaay ahead of any stock CSE, even ahead of a stock Aero, in horsepower terms. The Aero certainly looks striking, has 16" wheels and the awesome seats. But, it's not for everybody. The ride is not as comfortable as a CS or CSE, the rear seat really only holds 4, and they have a big price premium and finding one with low miles is a challenge. Good luck, this is just my $0.02...
