I replaced this little o-ring you mentioned, but I do not believe this affects the master cylinder function at all. It's there to act as an additional seal to prevent the leakage of transmission oil, if any ever gets past the pilot shaft seal. The slave itself is (or should be) completely closed on that side, with the hydraulic function taking place completely on the pressure plate side. I'm fairly certain of that, anyway.
So, if your slave should fail, you'd see hydro fluid leaking out under the throwout bearing or thereabouts. In fact, now that I think of it, that o-ring sits in a machined groove in the slave body -- there was definitely no way for clutch fluid to leak out on that side.
Since this is a '92 car, there's no gooseneck or flex of the mounting since it's not mounted at the firewall like older series 9000s (I still have my 89).
I think a dead or dying hose would have given warnings before failure??
