Deep cycle

Do you have extensive HIFI equipment? Do you have a gasoline burning heater? Any other high power electric accessories? If no - Yellow Top is an overkill......
Red Top will give you much higher crank amps, but will not endure as many "deep cycles" (discharge under 80% capacity). A normal start will only use a few % of the total capacity and even (or expecially?) in cold climates high cold crank amps is the thing to have.
The Optima batteries in general have a much more durable design of the lead plate system (spiral) than conventional batteries. Off roaders love them and even use them for welding (!) in the middle of nowhere. Also the car hifi people swear by them.
I have and use the Webasto gas heater every day and it uses a lot of power for 30-45 minutes. My CSE eats batteries every 12 months (too many deep cycles for conventional batteries), still I chose the Varta Blue Dynamic instead of the Yellow Top. Among the conventional (start and lighting) batteries it has by far the best deep cycle properties. Still it has 74Ah and gives one of the highest cold crank amps. I paid 72 euros against the 220e for the Yellow Top, so it was purely a financial decision.
