I'm sure that lots of people will weigh in on this but here is my opinion;
The automatic is the biggest issue that you have to resolve to make a go of this.
Saab limits the power of their automatic Aeros to 200BHP. My wife drives a '96 LPT, 170HP and has lunched 2 automatic transmissions in the first 50,000 miles. Her driving style is such that she has never gotten a ticket in her entire life. She doesn't even have to take the tests anymore. The state just sends her renewals. (Yeah, I think it's pretty weird too.)
Couple other things;
The 5 speed Aero motors get a different turbo, a Mitsubishi TD04. This is good form an additional 25 HP and a much smoother torquier motor. I've likened it to a small V8.
There are people around who have put the 5 speed Aero mods in front of automatics and, presmuably, kept the transmission intact. At $2k plus for a rebuild I'm not willing to risk it. I confine my expeiments to my 5 speeds.
At 275 HP you will also outstrip the capabilities of the stock suspension and stock brakes. Budget a bit extra for upgrades in those areas.
Good luck.
