boils down to available traction from tires (no surprise here).
If you have summer tires in snow, TCS cannot work miracles, and will stall out the car in snow. I live in the northeast and see occasional moderate snow. I also live up on a small hill. With the OEM Michelin Pilot, the car went no where up the road to my house. With a set of no season tires, the car would go up hill without much problem in moderate snow. When the road turned icy, with no season tires, the TCS would kick in and would go up about 1/4 way to my house and stalled with TCS on. Whenever this happens, I turn the car around, turn TCS OFF, back the car up the hill so to put more weight on the drive wheels (because of the slope). Most of the time, I could make it up to my house and driveway.
I think TCS works a bit better in rainy days, such as launching the car uphill in light rain. Still, TCS cuts so much power from such situation, it is most disconcerting.
My advise is just put the proper tires on the car so there is no need for TCS to cut in.
