I agree, if it was the first gen of 2.3 I would definately replace everything under the timing cover. Not replacing the sprocket on the early 2.3 with a rolled in chain doesn't fix the problem. The chain doesn't fail in these engines, the balance sprocket does. The timing chain only comes off after the balance chain does. They it grenades the whole engine. The 2.0 should virtually never need it's chain done. Check the tensioner first to see how far it's extended, that would be the deciding factor for me.
